Further south in the Okinawan chain–the Miyako and Yaeyama islands (collectively known as the Sakishima Islands) are as full of music as their more well known big-brother, the main island of Okinawa. The music on this mix includes sad melodies, work songs, love songs, and celebrations of island life, with some of the best-known traditional songs from these islands as well as some more modern compositions. All the artists are from Sakishima, with a couple songs sung in the local Miyakufutsu language.
