Today’s mix comes to us from the Rhinoçéros bar in Berlin, Germany! Opened by Bénédict Berna and Martina Carl in 2017, the Rhinoçéros is inspired by Japanese Jazz Kissaten listening culture. Selected especially for K.O.L. Radio, Benedict has put together a mix of tunes that capture the essence of the Rhinoçéros customer experience.
Kicking off with ‘First Song’ by Charlie Haden, Billy Higgins and Enrico Pieranunzi, this acoustic trio recording on the bar’s wooden Bowers & Wilkins Speakers sounds crisp, deep and enveloping. It continues with more Jazz tunes past and present including an atmospheric ECM recording from David Darling, an energetic live performance from Billy Harper, some brand new Jazz from Germany by Otis Sandsjö, and concludes with an uplifting Gospel tune from Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Something to boost the spirits of everyone during the tough times of the global pandemic.
